Evaluate and Educate

Explore the career center on our website to learn about different opportunities in the construction industry.
If a specific trade catches your eye, evaluate your previous experience for transferrable skills. While no experience is necessary for most apprenticeships, you’d be surprised at how many skills are transferrable between industries. You’re probably more experienced than you think!

Do Your Homework
After meeting with a career consultant, it’s up to you to take the next step. Researching the apprenticeships you’re interested in and the companies that offer them will be key to finding the perfect opportunity for you. Consider the following:
- Company Size & Specialty – Are you looking to learn from a company with a national reach or one deeply rooted in your community? Both provide different advantages when it comes to opportunities for growth and leaving a legacy. The type of construction a company specializes in will also dictate the experience you’ll have on your resume, whether that is industrial, residential, or commercial.
- Reviews & Testimonials – Do you know anyone who has completed an apprenticeship with a specific company? What was their experience? If you don’t know anyone currently or previously in an apprenticeship program, reach out to our Career Consultants who can share more information, or watch some of our videos that spotlight craft professionals and their stories for a more behind-the-curtain view
- Registered Apprenticeship Programs – Registered apprenticeship programs are registered and approved by organizations like the US Department of Labor and the National Center for Construction, Education & Research (NCCER). These apprenticeships are paid, include regular wage increases, and earn you industry-recognized credentials crucial for your career. Many registered apprentices can get college credit or an associate degree as part of their program! When researching an apprenticeship, always connect with the employer to find out the details on the program you’re considering.
