Building Community Purpose

2020 has done its best to isolate us. From virtual graduations to zoom birthday parties, it’s been nearly impossible to safely interact with friends and family. Now, with the holidays around the corner, we’re all looking for ways to spread cheer without spreading the virus.

If you work in the construction industry, you understand the importance of community. Build Your Future Arizona is proud to partner with organizations that have found ways to give in the midst of COVID-19.

Our partner, SSC Underground, chose to support the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP). In fact, SSC’s vice president, Michelle Walker is a founding member of the organization. The CIASP was formed to provide awareness and resources to the industry to help those that struggle with their mental health. As we all know, it’s important to have a healthy mind and SSC Underground’s involvement is a great example of how companies in the construction industry are working to make a difference. Employees and SSC Underground have provided more than $10,000 in support of this important cause, in addition to hosting events and the “Out of the Darkness Walk” in 2019. We truly support their efforts to help spread the importance of mental health awareness throughout Arizona.

Another partner, DP Electric, worked with St Mary’s Foodbank this year to help ensure that every person had food to eat during COVID-19. Through employee contributions and a matching program from the company, they were able to fund more than 45,000 meals for Arizona families in need. Thank you to DP Electric for their contribution to the community and helping to keep food on the table of Arizonans during these unprecedented COVID times!

Another partner of Build Your Future Arizona is Erickson Companies. They gave valuable support to Ryan House, an organization that provides palliative, end-of-life care at no cost to families. Members of the Erickson Companies team volunteered to help complete household chores and provide on-site assistance where necessary. The company also participates in the Ryan House annual 5k run (virtual in 2020) and sponsors a table at a community breakfast.

The team at Erickson Companies also supports Feed My Starving Children, an organization that distributes food to communities in need. Every year, about 40 employees volunteer to put together food packs that will be sent to various distribution centers around the world.

The Greater Phoenix Chamber is ingrained in our local community. They are at the epicenter of Arizona’s economy and understand the impact that COVID-19 has had on local businesses and families. They added HomeAid Phoenix to their charitable efforts in 2020 to support our community’s homeless population. In collaboration with Sip Coffee and Beer, the Chamber provided breakfast for 450 people in Phoenix.

We are so proud to be connected to these generous and compassionate organizations. How are you getting involved during this one-of-a-kind holiday season?

Remember that it’s not how much you give, but how much you share that counts. Tell us how you have chosen to serve the community that you are building and make the world a more generous place this year.
